Elena Matilla Romero – MIM September 2012

I think it will be impossible to express in a few words how excited I am to begin the MIM.

I was born in La Coruna, a beautiful city in northern Spain which I highly recommend visiting. Since childhood, I have always been interested in health in a global sense, which is why I have devoted much of my formation to it.

I studied a double degree in Pharmacy and Nutrition in Madrid and once finished, I decided to begin Optics and Optometry as a complement to my previous studies; I think that they are the key to finding new business models in the sector nowadays.

Everyone who knows me emphasizes my great entrepreneurial and business mindset, and the vast effort that I put into each of the goals that I set. This has given me the opportunity to make decisions in family businesses of which some are related to the health sector and others to the rural tourism and real estate sector. The large amount of entrepreneurial ideas that I had during my studies have been decisive when applying to this master. When I received the news of my admission, I felt a bit nervous. It was as if all the ideas I had in my mind became a little more real; so I must admit, it was like making a dream come true.

I am a person who loves sports, especially tennis. Since I was a child I have participated in several tournaments and I am convinced that playing competitions has helped me to develop both tenacity and a capacity for sacrifice, which I consider are some of my main virtues.  In addition, I also love travelling and learning lifestyles of different cultures. I am really looking forward to beginning the MIM and hope to learn a lot from all of you and to contribute with my enthusiasm, optimism and above all with my particular “bio” perspective.
