As you may have already heard, IE Business School gives students the opportunity to engage in exciting extracurricular activities through IE Clubs. So, thanks to the IE Consulting Club, IE Business School MBA and Master students had the chance to participate in a very exciting project: The Oliver Wyman Iberia Case Competition. Oliver Wyman is a prestigious international management consulting firm and they invited students to form teams of 2-4 people to provide consulting advice about a real-life business situation. The reward: the winning team will be placed on a fast-track for interviews and will enter the recruiting process for the entry-level consultant positions!

The MIM program was well represented and the teams submitted their final presentation for the first round last Sunday. By the end of this week, 9 teams will be selected to move on to the second round. In the meantime, here are some exclusive insights about this experience given by some of the MIM students:

“Why did you decide to participate in the OW Iberia Case Competition?”

  • Silvia Durá Ramada, Spain: “As I have decided I want to work in the consulting area, the Oliver Wyman Competition was a good opportunity to have an insight in what consulting management is about. Oliver Wyman is a very well-known consulting firm: One more reason why I decided to take part in the competition.”
  • Rishabh Soni, India: “Being from the engineering background, I have had no experience on analyzing a Business case. This competition gave me the opportunity to experience that and get exposed to working in a consulting team. Also, I have been thinking about working in a consulting firm after I graduate the MIM and this competition gave me a chance to analyze my capabilities.”

“Why is it worth it to get involved in extracurricular projects like this during the MIM?”

  • Raphael Grissemann, Switzerland: “When I decided to go to IE, I had the objective to be active both inside and outside the classroom, so when the chance arose to participate in a case competition, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to apply what I learned to a real-life problem. It turned out to be a great learning experience, and has motivated me to further explore the consulting field as a possible career path. I found out that being open to new, extracurricular projects will help me discover new interests and maximize my learning experience here at IE.”
  • Jordi Soley, Spain: “I think these kinds of projects offer us lots of opportunities. First of all, it gives us the opportunity to work as a consultant and get a deeper understanding of this career path. Secondly, it offers the chance to network with Oliver Wyman staff. Finally, it also brings us the opportunity to create a bond with our team. When it comes to extracurricular activities, you can realize the commitment from your peers and being in such an atmosphere is an amazing feeling.”

Ultimately, engaging in this competition was a good way for the students to gain a wider perspective of the business world and make the best out of their MIM experience.

  1. Blogging is the new poetry. I find it wonderful and amazing in many ways.

  2. What you’re saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I’m sure you’ll reach so many people with what you’ve got to say.
