The Master in Management welcomes the September 2012 intake
Keynote speaker, MIM alumnus Adriaan Wintermans addresses the new MIMs
The Master in Management Team was pleased to welcome the newest members of the MIM Family at the Opening Ceremony held in the beautiful Aula Magna of IE´s Segovia Campus. Over 180 students who come from 46 different countries and from a wide range of academic backgrounds got to know each other during the ceremony and a walking tour of the historic center of Segovia, before returning to Madrid to begin their orientation program called the START Module. Along with rousing speeches from IE Business School Dean Santiago Iñiguez and Dean of Programs Martin Boehm, we were thrilled to welcome MIM Alum, Adriaan Wintermans as our keynote speaker.
Adriaan Wintermans, who hails from the Netherlands, graduated with a degree in economics at UM in Maastricht before working on a private game reserve in the Waterberg biosphere, South Africa. He then graduated in the top 5% of his class in the Master in Management program specialized in Sales & Marketing. In 2009, he was selected for a management traineeship at TSR Recycling GmbH & Co. KG, during which he worked in the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia, where he set up a purchasing department for a new Slovakian steel mill. Since August 1, he has been responsible for a scrap yard in Amsterdam, where he is responsible for 50 people and an annual turnover of 180M€.
“Everybody has their own ceiling; only through cooperation can one break through this ceiling and achieve much higher results than by him or herself,” Adriaan noted. “I always say everybody is only partially gifted.” He encouraged the new intake of MIM students to do the work necessary to succeed in the program, to go to class every day and to contribute fairly and energetically to group work, but to also make the most of living in Madrid, to take advantage of the international network in their class to see the world, and never to lose themselves entirely in their work. With endearing anecdotes and personal photos of his classmates during the Global Immersion Experience in Milan and Shanghai, at Real Madrid games and at each other´s weddings, Adriaan painted a brilliant picture of a life-changing year well-spent and fondly remembered.
